On November 10, 2021, Chinese Ambassador Ma Xinmin met with Sudan’s military leader Burhan to exchange with him views on the current situation in Sudan. Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, head of foreign affairs of Sudan, was present at the meeting.

As a traditional friend and strategic partner of Sudan, China is paying close attention to the developments of its current situation, Ambassador Ma said, adding that China hopes Sudan will maintain peace and stability and take steps to ensure the safety and interests of Chinese citizens and institutions in Sudan.

China upholds the principle of non-interference in others’ internal affairs and opposes external attempts to interfere in Sudan’s internal affairs, Ambassador Ma stressed, saying that he has confidence in the wisdom and strength of the people of Sudan to handle the situation successfully. China hopes that the related parties of Sudan will bear in mind the fundamental interests of Sudanese people and national peace and stability, and address issues through dialogue and consultations under the framework of the Constitutional Declaration and the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan, in a bid to advance the political transition hand in hand. China calls for the international community to respect Sudan’s sovereignty and dominance while seeking to contribute more to easing the tension, enhancing unity and cooperation among the related parties and improving Sudan’s economic conditions and livelihoods. This is in the interest of Sudan and its people and will help the country go through the difficult pass.

For his part, Burhan praised China’s ongoing support for Sudan’s political transition and thanked China for its valuable contributions to driving the country’s socioeconomic development and improving the livelihoods of its people. He hoped that China would continue to play a positive role in Sudan-related issues. Sudan attaches high importance to its relations with China, as China is a major country of global influence and also a strategic partner having long-lasting friendship with Sudan, he noted, adding that Sudan is willing to further bilateral friendship through deeper exchanges and cooperation on various fronts, and will resolutely safeguard the safety and legitimate interests of Chinese people and institutions in the country.
